Critical Illness Waiver of Deposit (CIWD)

This benefit provides the payment of a monthly deposit into the accumulation fund, in the event the insured is diagnosed with one of the covered illnesses and survives 30 days following diagnosis. The deposit can be used to cover all or part of the costs and expenses of the plan or to accumulate tax-deferred.

The covered illnesses include:
 

  • stroke
  • heart attack
  • cancer
  • Alzheimer's disease
  • Parkinson's disease
  • coronary artery bypass surgery
  • multiple sclerosis
  • benign brain tumour
  • kidney failure
  • coma
  • major burns
  • paralysis
  • loss of limbs
  • major organ transplant
  • major organ failure requiring a transplant
  • deafness
  • blindness
  • loss of speech
     

Issue Ages - (Age nearest)
 

  • Age 18 to 75 

 

Benefit Amount
 

  • minimum: $25 a month
  • maximum: $1,000 a month
     

Benefit Cost
 

  • Fixed - Guaranteed
  • Ceases to be payable at the insured's age 75
     

Termination of Coverage

Benefit will cease at the earliest of:
 

  • the insured's 75 birthday
  • the date of the insured's death
  • the date the contract or benefit is terminated

  • 30-day retroactive waiting period
